Last Year's Adventure

I wanted to show you some photos from last years adventure. Mrs. B and I had a great view of all the musher during the Cerimonial Start, which is like a big parade. On the first Saturday in March, all the mushers who are signed up to run the Iditarod, take their team down 4th Avenue in Anchorage. They do a 12 mile run out to Campbell Airstrip and then box up their dogs for a truck ride to Willow. The actually Iditarod on Sunday in Willow, AK.

Dee Dee Jonrowe is all dressed up for the "parade".
You will notice each sled has a passenger, called an Idita-rider. During the real race, the sled will be full of all the gear the mush needs to carry with them during the race.

Behind the main sled, you will see a second sled and driver. This sled helps slow down the team. The dogs are so excited they want to go really fast so it helps to have two sleds to control all that "dog power".
Hugh Neff's, team is also dress-up for the parade.
Some of the dogs wore coats during the "parade". I think it was to just look good. But during the real race if it gets really cold or windy the dog do wear coats. I will tell you more about that later.

Well, I hope this video gets you really excited for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race but there is a lot to learn before the start. My friend Rhu from Nature's Kennel is going to be teaching us all about being a Iditarod sled dog.  So stay tune,
