We are in Alaska.

Hermie here.
Mrs. B, Yukon, and I made the trip up Friday. Yukon is holding down the fort.

Saturday, Mrs. B and I headed out to the Jr. Iditarod start. The Jr. Iditarod is for mushers ages 14 to 17. Isn’t that cool!. Some of this year’s racers are just 14 years old and in the 8th grade. I also noticed there are way more GIRLS than boys. The race is 150 miles with a 10 hour layover in Yenta. The musher have to camp out with their dog team and do all the dog care by themselves. You can learn more about the Jr. Iditarod at

Mrs. B got to spend some time with dogs from Nature’s Kennel. (You know that is her favorite kennel because that is where all her dogs are from.) She met some of Sprout’s nieces and nephews. They are running with Kali Herbst from Ketchum, ID. Her dad runs the Iditarod with dogs for Nature’s Kennel and teaches 4th grade. This is Kali’s first big race. She looks very focused.
The junior musher who wins the race will go out first next Saturday at the Ceremonial Iditarod Start. I bet that is a little scary.

Let's Talk about Food

Hermie here,
Today I want to talk about dog food. Rhu and her friends at Nature's Kennel will teach you about what kind of food a sled do needs to be in the Iditarod.
